Dallas County Old Red Courthouse
Logo
The Old Red Courthouse is a significant landmark in downtown Dallas.  It is the city's only remaining example of the Romanesque Revival style inspired by architect H.H. Richardson.  The building demonstrates the great vitality and  self-confidence of Dallas in the last decades of the 19th century, when with a population of 38,000 it became the market center for the North Texas region.  Over a 22 year period, James Pratt Architecture/Urban Design has executed a number of projects on the Courthouse:
  • Readaptation of the building to court functions
  • Stabilization of the fabric, requiring inspection, design, and execution of innovative technical procedures
  • an Historic Structures Report
  • Budgeting for a $4 million Capital Improvement Bond Program
  • Exterior stone wall, Stone ornaments and slate roof restoration
  • Interior restoration for corridors and stairway, offices and museum
This project has received a citation award from the American Institute of Architects and the John Neely Bryan Award.
